Standard of Living

Standard of living is something that defines your worth to the society. The question you need to ask is: what exactly is ‘standard of living’? Many times than not, people tend to use ‘economical condition’ as a substitute for ‘standard of living’ when they are actually two different things. Standard of living is the way you uphold yourself and the values that define your core being; it is the way you carry yourself in different situations. Not surprisingly, standard of living is something one needs to work on right from childhood and this where you play a crucial role as parents. There is nothing that you can do without leaving some sort of impact on your next generation- it’s the reason why parenting is a hard, complicated, and life-altering job. The day your child is born is the day you should set a standard disciplinary life to live. In other words, you should set down an ideal standard of living and stick to it. This changes a lot of things for two reasons. One, you are the ones your children spend most of their time with, as kids. So, you end up becoming the trend-setters even if you don’t want to. Two, the kind of decisions a person takes as an adult is a consequence of the training he received as a kid by his parents, be it in judgement, conduct, or standard of living. So, it is not surprising to say that more often than not, children end up getting ruined because they do not have a standard base to hold onto and when they go out into the world, they are prone to be influenced easily. After all, when you construct a house, you start with the foundation, the base and unless you make sure it’s strong and firm, it’ll not be able to withhold natural calamities or even last long. This principle is nothing different when it comes to working on personality. In fact, ‘personality’ is taken from a Greek work that means ‘tone’. So, your tone of speech is the essence of the way you carry yourself and that is what your children try to imitate. Therefore, if you fail to mind your language and your tone once you have children, they will pick the same trait- because that is how children build their speech- and when they leave your nest, they will gather trouble for themselves and inflict pain upon others just because they didn’t know where to draw the line. As parents, you always wish to leave something for your children, something that might enhance their life in future. Believe me, one of the best things that you can pass on to your kids is a standard attitude of discipline towards life. It is also important for you to let your children know that the need to be open to change. Teach them to be true to their core values but to also be open-minded enough to change themselves for better. After all, we are all only human and there will always be something or the other that we might have to change. In the end, it all comes back to you again because the responsibility of nurturing the next generation is in your hands. And we all know how the saying goes- ‘The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree’; a life of discipline is not limited to your children- it applies to you as well.
